“We Are Tomodachi”
is an official online magazine that introduces Japan’s attractions and its deep and multifaceted ties with the rest of the world to our country’s friends (tomodachi) across the globe. A new edition is published about once every two months.
In addition to special feature articles on timely topics, the magazine includes regular series such as “Friends of Japan,” which focuses on individuals from other countries playing active roles in Japan, and “Japanese Individuals Contributing Worldwide,” which introduces Japanese volunteers and others serving in various capacities overseas.
This website presents the latest edition, along with back numbers; the contents are searchable by edition, category, and country or region.
In November 2017, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Manila in the Republic of the Philippines to take part in the ASEAN-related Summit Meetings. Prior to the commencement of the Summit Meetings, he attended a gala dinner in celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, wearing the “barong tagalog,” the traditional formal shirt of the Philippines, along with the various other participating heads of state.
