“We Are Tomodachi”
is an official online magazine that introduces Japan’s attractions and its deep and multifaceted ties with the rest of the world to our country’s friends (tomodachi) across the globe. A new edition is published about once every two months.
In addition to special feature articles on timely topics, the magazine includes regular series such as “Friends of Japan,” which focuses on individuals from other countries playing active roles in Japan, and “Japanese Individuals Contributing Worldwide,” which introduces Japanese volunteers and others serving in various capacities overseas.
This website presents the latest edition, along with back numbers; the contents are searchable by edition, category, and country or region.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visits the Sugihara House museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. The museum occupies the city’s restored former Japanese consulate and commemorates the actions of the late Japanese Consul Chiune Sugihara (seen in the framed photograph on the left side of the desk), who issued “Visas of Life” to Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution. The museum’s purpose is to remind visitors of the importance of peace and humanity.
