Announcement of a Project Selected under the Secondary Invitation to the FY2014 Subsidy Program for Projects Promoting Foreign Direct Investment, Site Location and Regional Development in Japan (Project of Site Location for Global Companies)

Regarding the FY2014 Subsidy Program for Projects Promoting Foreign Direct Investment, Site Location and Regional Development in Japan (Project of Site Location for Global Companies), one successful applicant was selected as below.

1. Program overview and background

This program is intended to attract and concentrate high-value-added business operations that match the strength of the Japanese economy by supporting global companies’ establishment of new high-value-added business locations in Japan, such as head sites* or R&D sites,** through providing such companies with funding for constructing facilities, introducing equipment, and renting facilities.

*Note 1: The term “head sites” here refers to facilities for supervisory operations relating to project policy decisions or coordination for controlled group companies in two or more countries.

**Note 2: The term “R&D sites” here refers to facilities needed to carry out R&D, such as industrialization through research, applied development, trials, and product testing, for advanced industrial technologies in accordance with technological innovation.

Seventh Round of Negotiations on the Japan EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)

The seventh round of negotiations on the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was held in Brussels, Belgium, from October 20 to 24.

The meeting was attended by, on the Japanese side, Ambassador Yasumasa Nagamine, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Chief Negotiator), Mr. Koichi Akaishi, Director-General for Trade Policy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and representatives from other relevant ministries and on the EU side, Mr. Mauro Petriccione, Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Trade, European Commission (Chief Negotiator) and other representatives.

At the meeting, fruitful discussions were conducted on areas such as trade in goods, trade in services, investment, intellectual property rights, non-tariff measures, government procurement and others.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Tokyo in the week of December 8th.

Offer for a push-enabled information alert app, "Safety tips", for foreign tourists!

We will offer ["Safety tips", a push-enabled information alert app for foreign tourists] that offers Earthquake Early Warning and Tsunami Warning within Japan in English.
In order to realize a Tourism-Oriented Country, it is important to improve the tourism environment for safe traveling of foreign tourists in Japan, which is prone to frequent natural disasters.
This time, we have decided to offer ["Safety tips", a push-enabled information alert app for foreign tourists] as a part of the initiative.

○"Safety tips", a push-enabled information alert app for foreign tourists
 (1) Overview of the app
This push-enabled app pushes alert about Earthquake Early Warning and Tsunami Warning within Japan in English. The app provides various functions useful for both foreign tourists and residents in Japan, such as Evacuation flowchart in English showing actions to be taken in the light of surrounding circumstances, Communication Card for obtaining information from the people around, and Website Links that contain helpful information in the event of a disaster.
